What if tea could make you smarter or make tastier pasta?

Here are a few uses that are worth checking out:

Get smarter: Caffeinated teas have proven effects on mental alertness, but some traditional Chinese medicine practitioners swear that tea leaves in pillows can also help improve mental alertness. They say after sleeping on tea leaf pillows, people can wake up more clear-headed and quick-thinking.

Soothe tired eyes: Warm, wet tea bags can reduce puffiness and soothe pain around tired eyes — and tea bags on your eyes look a little less ridiculous than cucumber slices.

Soothe a sunburn: Wet tea bags can soothe sunburns and other minor burns. For a full-body sunburn, soak in a tea bath.

Dye hair: Brewed tea also is a good natural hair dye. Mix rosemary and sage into dark black tea and let the mixture stand overnight. Strain the mix and thoroughly work it into your hair. Repeat as needed for the desired color

Help recover from injections: A wet teabag on an injection site can be soothing, for babies or adults.

Prevent fleas: Tea is also rumored to help prevent fleas, so sprinkle some dry used tea leaves around pet bedding.

Repel mosquitoes: Burning tea leaves is said to repel mosquitoes with none of the side effects of chemical bug sprays.

How about using a brewed tea instead of water when cooking rice or pasta? Pretty cool and a must to try.

Are You Using Vinegar and Baking Soda to its Max?

We usually have these two items at home, but have you thought about using it for more than leaving it in the fridge or adding it to your meals?

I’ve compiled a list of uses that may help you cut some cost. See my other article on home-made conditioner.

Need to scrub dirt out?

Create a paste out of spoonful of baking soda and water and scrub scrub scrub. (floor is also applicable)

If you have greasy dishes, place vinegar in hot water and scrub area.

How about mopping?

Drop a few capfuls of vinegar in a bucket and add water.

Something smells funny?

Add vinegar to water in a spray bottle and spritz spritz spritz.

Baking soda box in the area, ex closet or drawer.

Bitten by Pesky Mosquito?

I haven’t tried this one, but I was told by my friend Miwa that you can put a paste mixture(little baking soda and water) on the bite. Try it, let me know if it works.

Who Moved My Meat?

A little humor for this serious topic  :)

Moving away from meat has been a little challenging in the last month. Although, this transition has been rewarding with an energy increase and overall new well-being that will be hard to give up.

The challenge i’ve faced always arises when i’m out socializing :)  I’ve managed and i’ve supplemented meat with other textured foods, but i’ve also added more seafood to my diet and new foods that would of not been my first choice. I’ve been lucky enough, I’ve had some pretty tasty options show up in my plate: spinach ravioli, vegetable risotto, tomato soup. Not too shabby.

Recently, I began experimenting with veggies I normally walk by at my grocery store or farmers market. This weekend I had a delicious meal, although I can’t take credit for it; my mom(non-vegetarian) surprised me with it, but holy moses, the photos below don’t do it justice. It was pretty damn good and I have leftovers. yeahy

Pasta alla Norma – Wheat pasta with eggplant, cherry tomatoes and feta(yes, i’m still good with cheese)

Irene Safety Checklist

A few tips to maintain if your  area is affected by Irene.

Seriously people? Leave area if they ask you to. Stuff is just that.

Get it while you can:

Water, 1 gallon per person – 3 day supply.

Rechargable batteries and an AM/FM radio(looking into this pronto)

There are ways of re-using supplies if you are at home and begin to feel like time is moving at snail pace.  Vinegar  is great product to be used as a household cleaner, conditioner, salad dressing. Get creative.

Check out Fema checklist and make your own replacements.

Oh and lastly, don’t trust the calm and wait for officials to say is ok to go back outside. Wouldn’t it just suck to touch something you didn’t want to. Anything from garbage, to I dunno maybe dog poo and fallen wires!

Be safe!

DIY – How to Create a 3 Tier Serving Tray

Greenpologie - Homemade party tray

I had a gathering at my home and needed a party tray pronto. I could of bought a platter, but making it myself was not only cost effective, it allowed me to give it a personal touch.

It was pretty simple and you can reuse different types of plates, glasses, bowls that you already own. I would even choose pieces from garage sales, could look pretty fun depending on what you find!

Materials:

3 plates difference sizes (small, medium, large)

1 wine glass

1 vase

Crazy glue

Steps:

Glue the bottom of the wine glass to the bottom of the smaller plate.

Let it dry

Glue the lid of the wine glass to the medium size plate.

Let it dry

Glue the lid of the vase to the larger plate.

Let it dry

Glue the bottom of the vase to the bottom of the medium size plate.

Place a book or something heavy on the top of the smaller plate and let it sit for a couple of hours.

Other uses:

You can add dips to the bowl. Plates are perfect for chips.

Use this as a decorative piece and add random jewelry, bracelets, rings. Lid of bowl could hold earrings.

Would love to see what you came up with, send me pictures!
